(As Silent As) An Underpass In The Pouring Rain

from Demos by Quiet Lodge

/

lyrics

There's a path that was lost when the gates went up,
and the feeling that vanished when we'd enough
of the only thing we ever wanted to have.
It had filled up the cups that we held in our hands
and poured out like water through wide-opened panes,
as silent as an underpass in the pouring rain.
On an old farm road in western New York,
there's an army jeep from the Korean war.
It reminds me of you, for it no longer works,
but it stays where it lays and remains in the earth.
Left idle on Iroquois land with no claim,
I wonder if I'd ever see it again.
Where ever you rest your head, rest it the same:
as silent as an underpass in the pouring rain.
